WordPress 2.7 is here! As usual the WordPress community has been very active even when WordPress 2.7 was in beta and were publishing a lot of good resources. I have been reading them and collecting them.

Andy, welcome to ShanKri-la and thanks for the kind words. WordPress on your server is extra work for you but gives you a lot more flexibility than having a WordPress.com blog. Think of custom themes, plugins of your choice. One of the biggest plus with running it in your server is the monetization opportunities. But, if you are just getting your feet wet in blogging, WordPress.com is a great place to get started and get yourself familiar with WordPress admin interface, etc. I started with a WordPress.com blog myself before moving on to a self-hosted WordPress blog.
