Official: Firfox 3 Downloads Set Guinness World Record

Mozilla has announced that it has set a Guinness World Record for the most number of software downloads in 24 hours.

I had written about the release day and followed the little download fiasco around the time Firefox 3 was made available around the world.
Firefox 3

Firefox 3 was downloaded by 8,002,530 people and that is the most a software has been downloaded in 24 hours with around 1.7 million people pledging in advance to download the software. And today, so far there as been around a whopping 29 million Firefox 3 downloads!

While you are at it, you could download a fun certificate to show off your participation in the Guinness Record. 🙂

Congratulations Mozilla!

Yes well done to Mozilla – I think it was pretty certain that it was going to break the record and probably earned some decent publicity from this stunt.

    Bring on Firefox

I have not downloaded Firefox 3 yet but the news are everywhere. Looks like Firefox will win IE soon since Firefox has a ton of goodies, toolbars and addons. I own a Mac and heard somewhere there was going to be IE for Mac but I think Firefox is the best around would never install IE or anything Microsoft in my Mac either. If Firefox wasn’t around I would probably stick with Safari or maybe Opera if its Mac compatible. Still waiting to see if Flock will make a boom with all the social media hype.

Well Archie, firefox certainly is the best browser out there (my personal opinion), but I don’t think it is taking over the internet explorer market share anytime soon.

Firefox will win over the “savy” computer users, but I think Firefox, will not reach the unsavy computer users. Which as far as computers go, is the most market share.

Awesome! I’m glad to see many fellow attorneys finally getting on the Firefox band wagon. It is such a superior browser to IE. I can’t believe anyone would use anything but Firefox.

I was totally apart of that. I’m glad we made it!

I was also a part of the guiness world record downloaders. 😀
Although, I head that no matter how many downloads firefox got, it would still have set a world record as there wasn’t a previous record like this? Any truth to this?

Still dwarfed in comparison to the # of people using the useless IE.

I’m really glad to hear they were successful in breaking the record. It would have sucked if they got all that publicity and still couldn’t make it happen.

That’s crazy how many people downloaded it in 24 hours. Anyhow it sounds unbelievable but it’s true. I really like Firefox, I’ve never seen a better browser. Firefox 3 is cool, but most of the add ons don’t work, that’s the only problem I think. So I’m looking forward that this bug will be fixed soon.

I have been a loyal Firefox user for about two years now, so this new download record is good news for me. This should help Firefox chip away at the IE market share somewhat.

P.S. — There seems to be a typo in the post title. Currently Firefox is spelled as “Firfox”.
