Calling America for Free

I have featured a few ways before to make free calls to the US and other international countries before.  calling-america

And trust me, there’s a lot of websites that offer such services. I just found a cool one named CallingAmerica.com.

CallingAmerica.com looks promising and unique as it doesn’t require you to download any software at all. It completely works right from the browser.

How it works

CallingAmerica works by detecting your computers Microphone via Flash. All you need is a broadband connection to start making calls to US numbers. Registering with the site is FREE and optional. But, without registering you can only make 2 minute calls. After registration, you can make calls of 15 minute duration. And unlimited calls. That’s a big plus for going through the now-much-of a hassle registration.

You can make free calls to US & Canada from CallingAmerica.com. It lets you call any number of times and to both landline and mobile numbers. This could be great for anyone with a computer & a broadband connection.

I can see this being very useful when I’m travelling and on certain occasions. Obviously, I am going to send this post to my friends in India so they can call me for free.

Of course, this won’t replace my regular phone line where I am just paying $20/year for long distance. If you are wondering how, check out my MagicJack Review.  It’s really incredible.

Another great alternative to make free international calls to over 30+ countries is Talkster. Check out the link to find out how that works. It even lets you make group calls.

If you have someone try this or if you try it, let me know it works. Do you know a better alternative that works for you, please share it with us.

I’ve been using this service for the past 2 weeks to call my sister in the US. It has worked flawlessly, and the voice quality is very good. Though I’ll be using it just for 2 more days as she’ll be back then 😀

That sounds like a great way to save money on long distance phone calls. If it lets you make calls for 15 minute intervals who cares if you get cut off when you can just call for free again. I will have to check this out asap.

I was just wondering how do these websites go about earning money to provide for the huge bandwidth of Voip services when most of the calls are free. Anyway, thanks for the great information.

Another great collection to my list of free calling overseas services. In my humble opinion, Skype sometimes does not really live up to its service level and these new emerging services are giving them a run for their money.

Could anyone explain me that kind of business model? How do they (I mean CallingAmerica) earn the money?
I don’t believe in that kind of generosity in business so they should have some cash flows. Do you know where they come from?

Right now I am using skype to make phone calls, I have already paid for a full year, so for now I am out of luck there, but the talkster thing sounds good, my mom frequently makes calls to her sister in England, so we will def have to check it out even more!

I think things will get better and easier as far as using your pc for phone calls, and even more 😉

I have tried using Skype phone but the quality is not as equal as paid services. For this site, I can;t open it. Does it have any geographical restrictions? I’m from Malaysia.

Very nice little freebie that you have found here! I love these kind of programs, there are some like Internet Calls where you can ring any landlines for completely free! I found it quite funny ringing my house phone and hearing my family downstairs as I prank called them! Haha

Check my blog out for more freebies like this one if you’re interested!
