Update: If you are wondering why Firefox 3 isn’t available for download yet, it will be there for download at 1:00PM EST.
Update 2: Looks like all the Firefox download sites are down still at 1:11 PM. Here are the ftp download links, if you promise to help with the Guinness Record by downloading again. π
Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Final For Windows
Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Final For Linux
Mozilla Firefox 3.0 Final For MACOS
(thanks Umana)
After months and months of talking about alpha, beta and release candidate versions of Firefox 3, the final stable version is finally set to be let out in the wild tomorrow.
Firefox 3 Releasing June 17 2008
Firefox 3 has seen some excellent improvements after being in 34 months of active development and is, for some good reasons, being touted as the best web browser. Yes, and its finally supposed to be available for download tomorrow.
if you are like me you are probably all ready to download it the moment it’s available. But, you could also decide to wait for a little bit before making the switch from your beloved and much protected Firefox 2 for fear of breaking your current setup. If that’s the case, here’s another reason to reconsider besides the obviously exciting new features it brings with it. Or you could check out this Field Guide to Firefox 3.
Contribute to a Guinness World Record – Download Day 2008
Firefox 3 is all set to setting a Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in 24 hours on June 17, 2008 when it’s first available for download. Here is another reason why you could download it tomorrow and try it. If you do intend to download and be a part of this excitement, you could pledge here.
Firefox 3 Add-ons Compatibility Report
One of the biggest deterrent for most people in upgrading to Firefox 3 has to the compatibility of add-ons that they are using at present with Firefox 3. A lot of us using the release candidate versions of Firefox 3 had to turn of extension compatibility check to use some of our favorite add-ons as they weren’t updated.
But, this has been changing slowly but surely with a lot of the mainstream extensions having been updated to be compatible with Firefox 3.
Some of my favorite extensions like Greasemonkey, Delicious Bookmarks & Update Notifier that weren’t compatible before are now compatible with Firefox 3. Plus, some more biggies like Firebug, Tab Mix Plus & FireFTP are supposedly in the works to be compatible before the release date.
You can read about status of some of the other extension’s fate here at Alex Polvi’s status report. Although most of them are being updated, some like the Google Browser Sync are getting the axe with no Firefox 3 love. But, no worries check out some alternatives here.
New Themes Browser & Advanced Search
The Firefox Add-ons site saw an overhaul a few weeks back but the themes section wasn’t updated. Until now. The theme browser now lets you preview multiple themes in a single page as well as be able to switch theme categories easily. Also, there is a new Advanced Search feature in the add-ons site that lets you narrow your search by add-on type, age, compatibility, etc.
Host or Join a Firefox Download Party
Yes this might sound a little extreme but it’s true. Mozilla having celebrated it’s 10th anniversary this year has opened up it’s Party Central for people wanting to throw a party while they are downloading and helping Firefox set a world record. You could host a download party or join an already hosted party. The current tally is at 505 parties with around 2990 partygoers.
With the browser war heating up with the release of Opera 9.5 with it’s own set of new features, the Firefox team isn’t relaxing. They have already outlined some new features in the next version of Firefox 3.1 here. It’s a nice short read if you want to see where Firefox is headed next.
Also, if you are interested Lifehacker has done an unofficial speed test comparing Firefox 3, Opera 9.5, Safari & Internet Explorer 7.
I started out writing this post with the intention of just talking about Firefox 3 release tomorrow but it turned out to beΒ roundup post of everything happening around its release. Looking forward to tomorrow but until then I would love to hear how you are preparing for this new version of Firefox.
I wish I had the time to host a download party. π

Tara, me too! May be the rest of who can’t have a party can have a virtual party in a FriendFeed room or something. π
Mark.. it sure is and I am really interested in seeing if we can be a part of a Guinness record.
Because of the huge publicity, i think the record might be broken.

Ecologie Umanas last blog post..Firefox3 gata de download
Hi Umana, thanks for the update! I see the linux link is unavailable now with too many users message. π I wonder if downloading from these links will count towards the Guinness Record though?
I love the new Firefox. It seems so much faster on my computer. I thought it was silly that the site went down. For all the advertising they did for download day you would have thought that they would have been prepared to use all that bandwidth. Oh well, they smashed the goal and then some. Good for them and hoorah for Firefox!

It was rather sad that the site went down after all that media attention. Waiting to hear if they really set a Guinness World Record! π
