I just recently featured Top Greasemonkey Scripts for Gmail 2.0 last week and it was well received. It just goes to show how many people are looking for useful enhancements to Gmail.
One of the most popular script is the Google Account Multi-Login script. The script lets you switch between multiple Gmail accounts without having to log out and sign back in.
The script author has updated this script yesterday with a very important security fix. Here is his words from the update log:
UPDATE (01/13/08): Patched a security hole which could potentially allow a malicious site to steal your passwords. Anyone who has installed this script should reinstall immediately.
If that’s not reason enough, the new script version has an option to prompt for password each time instead of storing it. I have been a little queasy with the script storing passwords for me but I gave in for the ease it offered me in switching between multiple Gmail accounts.
Now, I can’t be happier that I have the option to not store the passwords. I strongly recommend anyone using this script to update immediately.
Pongal(?) is an Indian festival celebrating the prosperity bestowed upon us by the sun and rain. It is roughly equivalent to Thanksgiving here in the US. Today is that auspicious day and I would like to wish Happy Pongal to everyone celebrating it!
Hi K!
Happy Pongal!
Happy Pongal to you as well. Shankar!
Aha! This is another must have for me. Of course most of them are but who’s counting? Not me
So Brown, you have no idea I keep track of things you download? 😈
This looks like an interesting enhancement. I’m always switching between my blog and personal Gmail (irritates my friends on chat), and this is just what I need!
BTW, this may be a silly question but what’s Pongal?
First, Happy Pongal to you. I know how big is it specially in southern part of India.
Anyways, I have updated that multi-login greasemonkey script.
Thanks for the update notification.
😛
Thanks Rakshit. It is very big especially in the rural areas where it is celebrated very grand.
You are welcome! 🙂
Happy Pongal for those who are celebrating!
Google Account Multi-Login script looks so nice.. Thanks for informing about that Gmail update!
the popularity of this script means that many have multiple gmail accounts,is it?
Troy, apologies again. For some reason Akismet keep sending your comments to spam. Just noticed and released it. I find this script very useful too. And I’m glad you asked! Pongal is an Indian festival very popular especially in the southern part. It is celebrated at harvest time in thanks to a good season of sun and rain and cattle. It’s kind of like Thanksgiving! 🙂
Martin, thanks for your wishes! This has to be my favorite GM script for Gmail.
Techbliss, it is very common to have multiple Gmail accounts. It helps to separate stuff out but also makes it harder to check all emails, until this script. 😉
Hi K,
Yet again, another time save for me. I’ve started using two gmail accounts now, so this will be useful for me. At the moment I use Firefox for my main account and IE7 for my secondary one, so I can have them both open at the same time. You’re saving me from IE!!
Stephen Cronin’s last blog post..JobsInChina Presents LocalCurrency For WordPress
Stephen, I don’t think it’ll let you keep both accounts open at the same time but you can switch between the 2 easily with this Greasemonkey script. If you’d like to have them both open, you may want to look at an extension such as CookiePie that’s supposed to keep the login cookies separate. I have never had much luck with it because I was impatient to learn how and didn’t have that much of a need either. 😀
But will this be on a secure gmail line..Will others with tehses scripts..How secure is it to use scripts on pages—since–I am f*-/-*////ed up already with several virus attacks and this is not america to file a law suit even if u have an IP cross functional hackers links…………
