ShanKri-la Sports a New Logo & Favicon

It’s exciting times around here. We just recently hit 200+ RSS subscribers and we have a Diwali 2007 Giveaway going on. In the midst of all this, I had won a contest at the ProBlogger Birthday Bash. The prize was a logo design by the famous Graphic Designer, David Airey!

He was wonderful to work with and provided so many iterations with all my change requests. If you are looking for a graphic designer, I recommend David whole heartedly. He is your man. The final version of the logo is what you see now at the top. You will also see the new Favicon in your browser window/tab.

If you had read our About page and actually not fallen asleep reading it, you might have read our motto. That is to be a ‘shining beacon in the web’, helping you find the jewels & gems that are usually drowned out by the ones that aren’t. That’s the theme of this logo design. I am thinking of changing the title description reflecting this. Something like ‘A Shining beacon in the web for your technology needs’. Think it’s corny? Got something better? Let me know in the comments. 😀

A logo for a blog is very important for building branding as well as easy recognition by readers. Without a logo, the blog name may not stick with them if they visited us months later. I had postponed creating a logo and a favicon for the 7 months of this blog’s existence. That has changed now! I am real excited about this significant addition amongst other changes like our new theme.

Thanks David for the great design! My wife and I love it.

I would love to hear what you think.

I really love the logo, it looks great! I’ve been planning on paying for a logo for my blog but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. By the way, David really is an amazing designer.

Dude, you have a knack for winning stuff. Didn’t you win something else not too long ago? How’s about sending some of that luck my way good buddy! LOL

You’re very welcome, K, and thanks for the recommendation!

One suggestion is to add some white space above your logo, as the top of the circle currently sits flush with the browser margin. Looks a little squeezed in, but whatever you feel works best.

    Nice chatting to you!

K, The logo is great – congratulations! I really like it and I think it fits well. I’m still seeing the old favicon though (on the tab in Firefox).

Michael, thanks! That is one of the most important thing about his blog I had been postponing. I like the one you have now.. 🙂

Mark.. I haven’t made much in Adsense but it seems winning contests are a better bet and a monetizing strategy. 😉 I did win a best buy $50 gift card, a $40 thinkgeek cert and a t-shirt. Come one now, don’t jinx me. 🙄 LOL

David.. it was my pleasure! Honestly, this weekend was so busy I spent 10 mins adding the logo & the favicon because I wanted it out there so bad. I will add some padding to the top. I think it’ll look better that way. Thanks for the tip, David!

Stephen.. thank you! I am not sure if the browser cache. I did see the old favicon for a day and then my Firefox started showing it right. I’ll play with it some more and see if I can find out why or how this works.

    Narendra.. thanks! 😎

gLF.. thank you! You are right.. I use the Faviconize Tab Firefox Extension and favicons are the only way I know which tab is what.

    Madhur.. thanks a lot dude!

K, works fine from home, but didn’t from work. I cleared the browser cache, so it shouldn’t be that – but that’s the only explanation I can think of.. Very bizarre. I don’t think you need to worry – it must just have been something screwy with that computer.

You’re very welcome for the tip, K.

    Chris,

You know more about being a man than I do, as I’ve yet to sample the joys of fatherhood. I appreciate the sentiment though! 😉

Great logo there buddy. Of course with David designing it, how could it not be great? The blog’s looking real good too 😀

Logo looks incredible! Nothing better than winning a free one from a professional! (thats how I got mine made also).

  14. K October 24, 2007 at 3:06 am #

Stephen.. glad it works. I’m not sure either. I’ll let you know if I found out how it works though.

    Chris.. that’s right!

Brown.. thanks dude! You know you, Mark & Kyle have inspired me a lot. When I saw your blogs you had already done what I was visualizing ShanKri-la to be. 😀

Kyle.. thanks a lot buddy! The contest I entered had dozens of options but I put in a preference for a logo design by David in case I won and I couldn’t believe it when they emailed me that I actually won it! 😛
