Google Buzz is creating quite a buzz since Google introduced it a couple of days. It appeared in my Gmail yesterday and I started playing with it.
First thing I noticed was that any buzz update was coming to my Gmail inbox.
No, no, no, no. I am trying to do a ‘Inbox Zero’ by archiving all emails and just keep the ones that need an action in my inbox.
Here is how you hide the Buzz updates from cluttering your Gmail inbox.
- Create a filter
- Enter “label:buzz” in the “Has the words’ field
- Check ‘Skip the inbox” (Archive) field
- Create the filter
Google Buzz updates are automatically labeled as ‘buzz’ so you just need a filter to skip the inbox.
More Buzz Hacks
- If you still don’t have Buzz in your Gmail, you can easily trick your browser to think it’s a mobile browser and access Google Buzz.
– Install User Agent Switcher Firefox add-on and restart Firefox
– Go to: Tools –> Default User Agent –> iPhone 3.0
– Go to: http://google.com/buzz - Gmail keyboard shortcuts like ‘k’,’j’ works in Google buzz to navigate between messages.
- If you don’t give a rat’s behind for Google Buzz and don’t want to see it in your Gmail, just scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and ‘Turn off Buzz’.
After a day of using it, my take away is that Google Buzz badly needs lists or groups like Facebook and Twitter and the ability to post stuff for certain groups.
Half my family and friends don’t care about the stuff I talk with my social networking peeps and vice versa.

It does. Go into Gmail’s Contacts feature and assign your contacts to groups (Friends, Family, Coworkers, or make your own groups). Then when you post something in Buzz, before clicking on the “Post” button, click on the “Public” button which is right next to it, select “Private”, and then select the group(s) you want to show the post to (you might need to click on the link labelled “Post to other groups” to display the list of groups).
did hide Google Buzz inbox messages using this little trick. Thankfully, this extension doesn’t add more Gmail inbox messages.
