Good Reads: Buzz in Blogs 2007-08-18

It’s time to take a look around and see what’s happening around us.

  • Review of GreatNews RSS Reader: Neely of NutShell Journal
It’s no secret to my readers that I am a fan of GreatNews RSS reader, a portable and versatile feed reader. Neely  found that my reasons for using Desktop feed reader compelling enough to try and it and she has put up a nice review of GreatNews. I have been postponing my own review of GreatNews and Neely has given me some motivation now.
  • 5 Reasons to Send A-List Bloggers To The Coal Mines: Kumiko’s Cash Quests

  • DCOT: Blogger or Art Thief? – Tim at Daily Cup of Tech
Tim is running a logo contest for DCOT. I learnt quite a bit from his encounter with difference in a no-spec and spec contests. Read on if you are interested in hosting design contests.
  • How To Find Hotspots On Your Blog: Mark at Me And My Drum
Mark talks about a free web service that helps you track hotspots on your blog. I’m currently trying CrazyEgg on here but the number visits reported by FireStats and CrazyEgg doesn’t seem to add up. It’s still pretty cool visualization though.
  • Why Does My Feedburner Subscriber Count Fluctuate: Darren at ProBlogger
This is something I used to wonder and later learnt that it has to do with the subscribed users actually pinging Feedburner when they read or update their feed readers. Darren goes into a little bit more detail and is a nice read.

    K-IntheHouse,

Thanks for pointing us to these great posts! I’ve read the post at ProBlogger, but I’m looking forward to digging into the one about Google Reader. I have G-Reader, but haven’t really used it yet, except to give it a quick look.

The others actually look great, as well! Where do we find the time for all this indispensable reading, and still find time to write our own blogs, complete our other freelance writing projects, and do all the other things that make up a life?!

I guess we’ll simply have to work on that one!

    Thanks, again!
    Jeanne

Hey Jeanne.. great to see you here and thanks for taking the time to comment. Just rescued your comment from the moderation queue.

RSS readers are great and Google Reader is one of the best web based readers. Bloglines has just come out with their long needed improved version.

Time management is one of the biggest challenges for bloggers. Balancing between the time you spend reading and spend writing posts is a tight rope walk. I try not to regurgitate the tech news that everyone covers and provide original content even if it makes 4-5 posts a week.

    See you around soon.
